Awout: Agreed. he would have been far more credible if he would have stuck to the genetics and admitted his short-comings as far as anthropology is concerned, and his comments to Dr. Fuller regarding racism are just ridiculous. Still, I'll be interested to see what comes of the Neanderthal Genome Project in the future if they get access to more samples of Neanderthal DNA, and especially if they decide to analyze other hominins of the same time period.

I can't believe that he said that! He must have been joking! When is racism ever OK? I guess he would just be out of a job if he did not have to decode their genome, so in a sense he does have to stick to the idea that Neanderthals are different. I still did not get an answer for both of my questions. The sample size was way too small to jump to a conclusion, and also his answer about the skulls was unacceptable. In fact, there was no answer; he was just throwing around big words. I think he's a good geneticist, but he needs to know more about his anthropology.

The speaker also neglected to mention that in addition to using Upper Paleolithic tools, Neanderthals of ~40,000 years ago were also creating cave art, fashioning jewelry from shells, and using feathers as decoration. The idea that Neanderthals were lacking in intelligence is an increasingly antiquated perception, and I was surprised that this belief was included in a presentation that otherwise focused on genetics when there is "obviously" no way to genetically compare the the intelligence of Neanderthals and modern humans.

Ola! Kathleen Fuller,
Cool Post, College students are sometimes not able to afford expensive hard bound college textbooks. Usually it is seen in the present-day, that a student pays for his or her own college education, by doing part-time jobs in delis, supermarkets, malls, and other places, and doing odd jobs. Usually college students do not have much money left after paying their expenses. They would rather not spend money buying the other essentials of college life, these including, the right textbooks, stationary, and other paraphernalia.
